Driven out by demonstrations

IN February, residents in Dalkeith staged demos after Greens was housed in the town following his release from prison. He was later rehomed following demands for his eviction.

Later that month, more than 100 people descended on a homeless unit in Loanhead after rumours Greens was living there, despite assurances from police to the contrary. Greens was then spotted in March walking around Edinburgh, having being rehoused in a hostel just yards from a primary school in the New Town.

In April, the Evening News revealed round-the-clock monitoring of Greens had been axed because council bosses could not afford it, despite police saying he remained “a very serious risk” to the public. Two social workers had been living with him 24 hours a day to ensure someone was “always awake” to monitor him, but the arrangement ended when funding was cut.

Greens was later moved out of the Lothians to a secret location, but it was revealed that he was expected to return within weeks. Yesterday, it emerged Greens had been moved back to Midlothian, with residents launching a protest after word spread that he had been given a two-bedroom home near Bonnyrigg.
