Drive to remind travellers not to overdo it before flights

AIRPORT and police chiefs have joined forces to remind holidaymakers flying from the Capital this summer that if they drink too much they may risk being barred from their flight.

The campaign will see police in the terminal supporting retailers and airlines through distributing flyers with the drink responsibly message to passengers. It is hoped that the efforts will encourage people to think about the amount that they drink in the airport before boarding the plane.

Inspector Paul McDonald of Lothian and Borders Police said: “Our aim is to ensure Edinburgh Airport remains a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone who is jetting off this summer, including families.

“We want to make sure that travellers don’t have their 
holidays ruined by engaging in drink-related antisocial behaviour and are delighted to work with staff and retailers in the airport to raise awareness and ask people to know their 
limits.”

Edinburgh Airport managing director Jim O’Sullivan said: “In the run up to summer and our busiest period of the year, we expect 35,000 passengers to pass through the terminals each day. This campaign is about encouraging our travellers to drink responsibly throughout their journey to avoid ruining their holiday.

“If a passenger has drunk too much they risk being barred from their flight so our goal with this campaign is to make sure that no-one spoils their summer getaway.”
