Dog and owner in river-bank rescue

A PENSIONER and her dog had to be rescued after they both got stuck on a river bank.

The 65-year-old was out walking her black and white springer spaniel Ollie at the River Esk near Musselburgh when the dog went down the embankment.

She then tried to go down and rescue her pet after it struggled to get back to its owner, but ended up being stuck herself.

Fire crews were called to assist the pair who winched them both to safety.

A Lothian and Borders Fire Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 11.50am on Sunday.

“A specialist team equipped with ropes and harnesses were sent and both pet and owner suffered no
injuries.”
