A CAT and her two kittens are recovering after being “dumped like rubbish” in a cardboard box in East Lothian.

A woman spotted the distressed cats outside Inglis Grain Driers Ltd in Ormiston on Saturday morning and handed them in to Dunedin Veterinary Surgeons in Tranent, which alerted animal welfare charity the Scottish SPCA.

The adult female, who is around one year old, and the two male kittens, around four months old, are now recovering at the Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

The boys have been named Flip and Flop and their mum is now known as Sandal.
