Delivering a golden idea

A SECOND postbox is to be painted gold in honour of Sir Chris Hoy if he comes out on top in the Keirin event at the Olympics today.

All gold medal winners at the Games have had a traditionally red pillar box in their home town repainted to mark the feat. A box in the city centre was painted gold last Friday after Sir Chris led the men’s sprint team to victory, securing the fifth gold medal of his career.

The first round of the Keirin, which Sir Chris won at the 2008 Games in Beijing, was set to take place from 10am today, with the final scheduled for 5.50pm.

As revealed by the Evening News, the city council has set out plans to give Sir Chris the Freedom of Edinburgh.
