‘Dangerous’ playground to be fixed

PARENTS whose children attend a West Lothian primary school look to have won their battle to have a “dangerous” playground surface repaired.

In spring, two potholes appeared in an area of the playground at Eastertoun Primary School in Armadale.

A team from West Lothian Council repaired the damage using a “jet patching” process, but the school faced complaints that the new surface was too rough and could cause deep cuts and scarring if an infant fell on it.

An inspector from the Health and Safety Executive reported “no real concerns” in July about the area, but a petition calling for an improved surface attracted 100 signatures.

In light of the petition, West Lothian Council has pledged £10,000 to pay for a 10mm-thick surface treatment to provide a smooth area in the
playground.
