Curling prospect hopes to sweep the board following Winning Students grant

A CITY student has gained scholarship support as she juggles her final year studying dietetics at Queen Margaret University with a blossoming curling career.

Alice Spence, 21, who received scholarship support from Winning Students, helped Scotland win gold at this year’s World Junior Curling Championships and has now stepped up to the senior ladies level.

She said: “The support from Winning Students will be invaluable.

“I live in Leith during term time so have to do a lot of travelling to train with the national squads in Stirling and it can be very expensive. My laptop also needs replacing too which will help me to complete my honours year project and graduate.

“Now that I’m competing at senior level we would love to win the Scottish Ladies Championship to qualify for the Worlds in Latvia next year.”

Alice is one of three Queen Margaret University students to receive scholarship support from Winning Students in 2012-13.
