City malaria discovery
discoveries about how the malaria parasite responds to drugs may help treat the infection, researchers have found.
Scientists from Edinburgh University and Pennsylvania State University have shown that severe strains of the parasite are harder to kill with treatment than less harmful strains.
The research suggests that drugs may encourage more harmful strains to evolve because the treatments are more effective at killing milder ones.
