Centre gets spruced up

A COMMUNITY centre for the elderly is to get a new lick of paint thanks to the opening of a supermarket.

Leaders at the 30-year-old Open Door centre in Morningside Road said the company which built a nearby Sainsbury’s had agreed to paint its entire second floor and cafe.

They added that they would not have been able to afford the redecoration had Barr Construction not stepped forward with an offer of help.

The centre, which opened in 1982, provides care and support services as well as activity and lunch clubs for older
people.

Sandra Dixon, a manager at the centre, said: “We’re scraping and saving just now – it’s a hard grind.

“It just made my day when Barr came in and said they wanted to do this for us.”
