Capital set to roll out free public wi-fi
THE city council has confirmed it will provide free wi-fi in the city centre thanks to a multi-million-pound grant.
Internet users in open spaces, including parts of the New Town and the Meadows, will be able to access the network after the Capital won a share of the UK Government’s Urban Broadband fund.
Edinburgh will be handed between £8 million and £11m for its Connected Capital programme.
The council says 90 per cent of Capital residents will have high-speed broadband access by 2015.
City council chief executive Sue Bruce said: “Becoming a super-connected city will enable us to compete with the world’s top digital cities.
“This funding will help Edinburgh to attract new jobs and investment.”
