Capital’s aid action saved lives in Africa

Edinburgh’s response to SCIAF’s emergency appeal following last year’s drought in the Horn and East Africa helped save many lives and is continuing to support long-term recovery.

Lorraine Currie, SCIAF’s head of international programmes, said its supporters had saved many lives.

She said: “SCIAF supporters in Edinburgh really pulled out all the stops and donated a fantastic £52,663 to last year’s Horn and East Africa drought appeal.”

Responding to the worst drought to hit the region in 60 years, SCIAF and its local partners and sister agencies provided emergency aid in Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia and Eritrea. More than ten million people were affected after rains failed, while more than 183,000 people received help from SCIAF following the response to last year’s emergency appeal.
