The west footpath and cycleway on the Forth Road Bridge has opened to the public today so people can watch construction of the new crossing.

A safety move saw it restricted to staff only in 2001, but pedestrians and cyclists can now access it every Saturday.

Barry Colford, bridgemaster, said: “This is the very best vantage point.”
