A BOGUS caller stole medication including morphine from a home after pretending to be working for the council.

Police today warned that some of the medication could prove potentially fatal if taken without a prescription.

The theft took place at around 11am on Sunday from an address in North High Street in Musselburgh, East Lothian.

A man called at the home and claimed to be a council employee checking for leaks.

Once inside, the suspect stole a dosette box containing medication including morphine, Senna tablets, amitriptylene and thyroxine.

The man is described as white, around 30-years-old, 5ft 11in tall, slim build, with black shoulder-length hair and wearing a black tracksuit.

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of North High Street yesterday morning, who noticed the suspect there, to contact us.

“Likewise, anyone who received an unsolicited call at their home by anyone matching the description of the suspect should also get in touch.

“Anyone who finds the box containing the medication should contact police immediately, and under no circumstances should they take any of the contents.

“At this time we would urge anyone who receives an unsolicited call at their property by any individual claiming to be employed by a company or organisation to ask for identification. If they are still not satisfied, then they should deny them access.

“If anyone has any suspicions over the intentions of any cold caller, then they should contact police immediately.”

Anyone with any information on the theft is asked to contact police on 101, or make an anonymous report through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
