Biker finishes hospital run in ambulance

A MOTORCYCLIST on his way to hospital had to complete his journey in the back of an ambulance after being struck by a car.

William Shirley, 22, was hurt in the crash on Great Junction Street at 2pm yesterday and was taken to the ERI.

He had been on his way to hospital on his cherished Yamaha R6 for a check-up when he was hit by a red Mazda saloon, which was left with a shattered windscreen.

His brother Bob said: “He’s fine. It looks like he’s just got cuts and bruises. He was on his way to hospital to get an X-ray and blood tests.”

Great Junction Street was briefly closed in both directions following the accident.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “The rider of the motorcycle had minor injuries to his arm and was taken to hospital as a
precaution.”
