Bathroom camera pervert avoids jail term

A PERVERT who hid a video camera inside a clock to secretly film a woman using a bathroom has avoided prison.

Derek Bathgate, 43, used a spying device to make recordings of the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard how Bathgate filmed his victim without her knowledge at his home in Newhaven Place, Edinburgh, between February 2011 and March 2011.

He was snared after another man who used the bathroom found the camera in the clock.

Bathgate, of North Berwick, East Lothian, pleaded guilty to recording the woman doing a private act with the intention of enabling himself to look at the image. He also admitted possessing indecent photographs of children.

Sheriff James Scott imposed a three-year Community Payback order and placed Bathgate on the sex offenders register for three years.
