A CREDIT union based in Craigmillar and Portobello is recruiting new members after expanding into Gilmerton.

Castle Credit Union announced that customers can now pay in deposits at Gilmerton community centre every Monday afternoon from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Lothians Labour MSP Kezia Dugdale said she had tabled a motion at Holyrood calling on the Scottish Government to put the role of credit unions at the heart of its financial inclusion agenda.

She also praised the volunteers who provide ethical and accessible services to those vulnerable to the “exploitative practices” of payday loan  lenders.
