Airport beat
reports drink
drop success

AN increase in the number of police patrols at Edinburgh Airport has been credited for a 71 per cent fall in alcohol-related incidents.

The campaign, run in partnership with Lothian and Borders Police from June to December last year, led to the major drop compared with the same period in 2011.

High-visibility patrols throughout the terminal and the departure lounge of the airport were aimed at preventing antisocial behaviour and to
discourage people from
drinking excessively before
flying.

Inspector Paul McDonald said: “Throughout the summer, we worked with retail outlets, air crews and licensed premises to ensure that Edinburgh Airport remains a safe environment for everyone.

“Due to the success of the initiative, it was decided to continue with it through the autumn and into the festive period.”
