Accolade for those streets ahead of rest

COMMUNITY heroes in North Berwick could have new streets named after them, under proposals by East Lothian Council.

Nominations are being sought to have the names of local stalwarts immortalised on streets in new developments.

Planning permission to build 42 homes to the south of Lochbridge Road was obtained last month and the council is urging residents to suggest possible street names.

Among the names suggested are Stella Moffat, who bequeathed money to the town – which is distributed to worthy causes – and Dave Kerr, a gardener who helped North Berwick in Bloom group to a number of successes.

Community councillor Bill Macnair said a list of worthy candidates should be compiled to christen streets at proposed housing developments at Gilsland and Mains Farm, both in North Berwick.
