Academics hail Glencoe victim Una

A YOUNG doctor tragically swept to her death in a Glencoe avalanche had been so highly rated by Edinburgh University academics that she had been invited back to inspire existing students.

Una Finnegan, 25, was among four climbers killed on Saturday during a trek at the remote Highlands location.

Her death was yesterday described as a “cruel” outcome by lecturers at the university where she completed a masters in anthropology.

Ms Finnegan, who had been working at the Western General Hospital’s surgical unit, had been due to give a speech to students next month.

Head of social anthropology Dr Ian Harper said: “She was very bright, intellectually lively, engaged, well read. She was definitely a high flier.”
