150 Lothians officers help police Games

MORE than 150 Lothian and Borders Police officers will be deployed in London during the Olympic Games.

The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland said 154 officers would travel south, but stressed that policing in the region and during the Festival would not be compromised.

Acpos insisted that the number of officers helping to police the Games was agreed before the G4S security scandal erupted.

Acpos general secretary Assistant Chief Constable Cliff Anderson, said: “Planning for this has been under way for some time and has taken into account the policing needs of the Olympics balanced with the absolute need to ensure Scottish policing retains the capacity to deal effectively with any demands placed upon it.”
