£12m to drive wind turbine technology

A PROJECT developing groundbreaking wind turbine technology in Loanhead is to receive a £12 million investment as part of an announcement by a new energy
consortium.

Business Secretary Vince Cable visited Artemis Intelligent Power Ltd as Mitsubishi, which acquired AIP in 2010, unveiled its partnership with Scottish & Southern Energy, Technip Offshore Wind and Wood Group Renewables in the £33m Efficient Offshore Wind Programme, set up to make the offshore wind industry as cost-effective as possible.

Mitsubishi’s Peter Cluskey said the investment included a four-megawatt test rig in a new shed at the Loanhead
workshop.

He said the Artemis technology dispensed with the need for the machine parts which were most prone to fail and would make turbines easier to maintain and operate.
