Provost on mend after operation

LORD Provost George Grubb has undergone an operation at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The long-serving councillor missed yesterday’s monthly full council meeting to undergo a scheduled medical procedure.

It is understood the procedure is part of pre-emptive treatment after a complaint was identified some months ago.

The civic leader, 76, was said to be in good spirits ahead of the procedure and is determined to attend the Lord Provost’s Banquet on Tuesday.

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre event will mark the end of his term of office after five years.

Council leader Jenny Dawe said today: “The Lord Provost today underwent a scheduled medical procedure. He is expected to be released from hospital today.

“I am sure the whole council joins me in wishing the Lord Provost a speedy recovery.”
