Inspiring crew setting sail

THE Capital’s entry in the Clipper Round the World yacht race was setting off from New York yesterday on the final leg of the race.

Among those on board is double-lung transplantee Justine Laymond, 39, one of a team of transplant patients, doctors and nurses sailing on the yacht. The group aims to raise awareness of the way in which transplants can transform lives.

Ahead of the race start, Ms Laymond said: “I’m so excited about joining the crew in New York. Every year that I’m alive, I set myself a goal and taking part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is most certainly going to be the pinnacle of my life achievements.

“The race is going to test me mentally and physically, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
