Golf: Double joy for Gordon at Gullane
TURNHOUSE stalwart Lindsay Gordon did the double in the Lothians Seniors Championship at a soggy Gullane.
Helped by the fact he’s also a member of the East Lothian club, the 61-year-old claimed top spot in both the scratch and handicap sections.
His gross one-under-par 68 over the No.2 course secured the RM Lees Trophy. And the one handicapper also picked up the Ian MacNiven Memorial Trophy, launched in honour of the long-serving golf correspondent of the Evening News, with his net 67.
It was the second time in three years that Gordon had claimed the scratch spoils after his win at Haddington in 2010. Liberton’s Robert Jack was second on that occasion and history repeated itself as he shot a 72 this time around.
The honour in the 69 years and over group went to Mortonhall’s Keith Clark with an 80.
Handicap prize-winners were: 55-62 years: 67 L Gordon (Turnhouse,1); 68 H Naysmith (West Linton, 5); 71 I Printy (Kingsknowe, 5); 63-68 years: 69 B Inglis (Duddingston, 6); 71 R Elrick (Baberton, 8); 72 D Anderson (Pumpherston, 5); 69 years and over: 68 J Riach (Gullane 14); 76 J Wemyss (Uphall, 13), G MacCall (Gifford, 16).
