Cochrane does it for Dalmahoy

NEWLY-CROWNED Lothians boys’ champion Callum Cochrane helped Dalmahoy chalk up a precious away win in the Pollock (Scotrans) Ltd Edinburgh Summer League.

It came at Mortonhall, where Cochrane maintained the form he’d displayed in his title triumph at The Braids to win comfortably against Graeme Clark.

Sandy Phillips, Dougie Hunter, David Marshall and Chris Brown also won for the visitors to cancel out the points chalked up at the top of the order by Mark Dickson and Martin Hopley.

“It was a bad result for us and means we’ll now need to win all our games that are left if we are to repeat last year’s run to the final,” said Mortonhall team manager Graeme Stark.

“There were a few of our guys kicking themselves after the match, knowing they had let their games slip away. Against a team with the quality of Dalmahoy, even at home you have to play well. We were not at our best and Dalmahoy took advantage, but we are not giving up yet.”

Elsewhere, Silverknowes had a whitewash over Glencorse, with Tam Caldwell, Paul Heggie, Ian Doig and Ian Randall all maintaining their 100 per cent records for the season.

“Another good home win for the team,” admitted Silverknowes spokesman Stevie Adamson, “but we now face a big test this week in our first away match at Baberton.”

West Linton also recorded a big win over Bruntsfield Links, with Simon Mackenzie and Sean O’Brien both being four-under in their matches.

In a closer match at the Merchants, the home team came out on top against Turnhouse. Good wins from Richard Craig, David Montgomery and Mike Leitch as well as a half point from Andrew Helm in the top four matches put Merchants into a strong position before Adam George and Paul Francis sealed the victory.
