Another success for Drake

PUMPHERSTON’S Paul Drake chalked up fifth win of the season on the Lothians circuit last night, defeating Silverknowes’ Keith Reilly in the final of the Union Motors Turnhouse Open.

That the title showdown was played over 18 holes was testament to the host club’s greenkeeping staff, who had the course in tip-top condition in extreme weather conditions. Reilly drew first blood, but Drake hit back straight away with a birdie-3 at the second. Reilly took the lead again at the fourth with a birdie 4 only to lose it again at the seventh with a bogey.

Drake soon had the upper hand, winning the eighth and ninth to take a two-hole advantage into the back nine and there was no way back for Reilly when he then found himself three down.
