Hearts boss faces injury sweat over pair for Celtic clash

HEARTS boss John McGlynn faces a sweat over the fitness
of Danny Grainger and
Callum Paterson for
Wednesday night’s SPL clash with champions Celtic.

The duo have just 48 hours to recover from knocks suffered in the goalless draw with Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday. Grainger is causing the most concern.

The Tynecastle defender landed awkwardly following a first-half aerial challenge and jarred his knee in the process.

While Grainger managed to continue after treatment, he lasted just five minutes into the second half before he had to limp off.

Paterson, meanwhile, took a heavy knock on his face during a clash with Motherwell goalkeeper Darren Randolph and came in for several heavy challenges as the game went on.

McGlynn said: “Callum had a really sore head and the doctor had a look at him, but Danny has hurt his knee. We’re hoping it isn’t anything substantial but at this stage it is very difficult to say or to look at a timescale.

“We said that we would give him five minutes into the second half just to see how it was but it didn’t get any better and we had a contingency plan, putting Ryan McGowan into left-back, Darren Barr back and Mehdi Taouil on.”
