Andy Driver form gives Hearts boss a boost

HEARTS manager John 
McGlynn believes Andy Driver could be hitting form at just the right time – and is hoping the winger can help his side bag a crucial six points before the winter break.

Driver produced one of his best displays of the season 
in yesterday’s 1-0 defeat at 
Kilmarnock and, despite his side seeing their three-game unbeaten run come to a halt, was a constant thorn in the side of the Rugby Park defence.

McGlynn was delighted with Driver’s shift and stressed that he wants his side to put the Ayrshire disappointment behind them and focus on the remaining two matches before the fortnight-long break.

The Tynecastle club face Ross County in Dingwall this 
weekend and then host Hibs in the New Year derby a week tonight.

He said: “Andrew Driver had an excellent game. He had a great strike as well and Cammy Bell had a great save from him as well. He is coming into some good form at the moment.

“This squad is strong and the Kilmarnock result was just a hiccup for us.

“We will not beat ourselves up about it because we have got to move on to Saturday now. We have got a big game coming up against Ross County. There are two games now before the break and it would be good to get six points from them.”

While disappointed with the outcome yesterday, McGlynn insisted he couldn’t have asked for much more from his players against Kilmarnock.

The Tynecastle side did everything but score in the defeat at Rugby Park after dominating possession and creating a number of chances.

Hearts now have a goal difference of minus two in the league but, having seen them score two goals in each of their three matches prior to Kilmarnock, McGlynn refused to be too downbeat.

“It was a good performance from the players and they showed a good attitude,” he said. “I thought they worked extremely hard and did everything bar score. I don’t think I could have asked for much more.

“There was a very thin margin and it was just a penalty kick separating the two teams.

“I thought we totally dominated the second half and edged the first half as well.

“The ball just didn’t fall

kindly enough for us and unfortunately we went away with nothing.”
