City edge past Strollers

Edinburgh City 2

Civil Service Strollers 1

City opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Howat got behind the Strollers defence and fired past the goalkeeper.

City then wasted two good chances to increase their lead as Robbie Ross headed a cross over and Howat shot just wide from the left wing.

City’s Harrison then did well to block a seemingly net bound Boggie shot before Harrison himself was denied a goal when his powerful free kick was pushed away by Cadger.

The sharp Howat was proving to be a danger to Strollers as he pounced on a loose ball before shooting over and was then unlucky to volley onto the bar after McFarland crossed into the box. Strollers equalised just after the break when Boggie fed the ball to Dickson on the left and he fired across goal into the net.

The home side regained the lead in the 69th minute when Kenny Ross crossed into the box and Robbie Ross nipped in to head past the goalkeeper at close range. In the last ten minutes Strollers wasted chances to equalise again as Rennie shot over from a good position and Anderson fired past after a scramble in the box.
