Andreu gives Livi victory with late goal

ANTHONY ANDREU smashed home his first goal in a 
Livingston shirt to secure three points for the Lions in dramatic style at Falkirk yesterday.

Livi had levelled through Callum Fordyce after Stewart Murdoch gave the home side a 30th minute lead from the spot, but after Paul Watson’s red card on 49 minutes John Hughes’s men looked to be facing a difficult task in securing a result.

The visitors seemed to grow in confidence with the extra space on the pitch, however, and Andreu’s 20-yard thunderbolt in the second minute of added time erased any hopes Falkirk had of picking up a second league win on the bounce.

The Frenchman claims that along with the delight at his first goal and league win, he is right at home with Livi’s style of play.

He said: “It’s special for me because we took three points. It was important for the team and our club.

“The team comes first and with ten against 11 we showed good, strong behaviour and that is most important.

“This season is a change for me but I like this team and this country. I prefer here, not because I’m here now but because we play passing football all the time and that’s my kind of play.

“Last year for me was not a good season because we didn’t play well, but now even if we cannot win all the games we will still play nice football.

“[John Hughes] is a nice manager and I have learned more with him, with Gareth [Evans] and John Collins too. There’s a really good team of staff and I’m very glad for that.”

Falkirk took the lead on 33 minutes when David Weatherston went down under a challenge from Paul Watson and Murdoch converted the spot kick.

Only seven minutes later Morton’s corner was headed home by way of a deflection by Fordyce for his first Livi goal.

Watson saw red early in the second half for a lunge on Andrew Haworth but the Lions’ threat grew as the game went on, and they grabbed the winner deep into stoppage time.

Darren Dods had just been sent off by referee Euan Norris for a second yellow when Andreu picked up possession 25 yards out and strode forward before sending the ball screaming past McGovern.
