Keen Lubomir Michalik on Hibs’ radar
Lubomir Michalik
HIBS manager Pat Fenlon is weighing up a move for Carlisle’s Slovakian international Lubomir Michalik – and the 28-year-old defender is understood to be keen on a switch north of the Border.
Michalik, who is 6ft 5ins, was brought to Britain in 2007 by Sam Allardyce and has had spells at Bolton, Leeds and latterly Carlisle. He would be a free agent as his contract at Brunton Park is up for renewal, although the Cumbrians’ manager Greg Abbott has offered him a new deal.
Michalik recently represented his country against Poland, winning his seventh cap for Slovakia, for whom he has scored twice. Fenlon, who faces a rebuilding job with Hibs after a host of loanees and out-of-contract players left the club, is understood to be an admirer of Michalik and is considering bringing him to Edinburgh. Furthermore, Michalik has indicated his desire to stay in Britain and is keen on a move to Scotland.
The Slovak is currently on holiday but Hibs will face competition for his services, with English League One sides Preston and Swindon also credited with an interest.
However, the prospect of facing the Old Firm and playing in the Edinburgh derby has caught Michalik’s eye and he would welcome an offer from the Easter Road club.
