Former Hibs star Danny Galbraith has clinched a two-year deal with League of Ireland Premier Division new boys Limerick FC.

The 22-year-old was released from his Easter Road contract on transfer deadline day, having not made an appearance for more than 12 months when he replaced Ivan Sproule against St Johnstone in a 3-2 defeat at home in January last year.

Galbraith, who had been plagued by injury throughout his time at Manchester United before joining Hibs in summer 2009, found himself sidelined and finally needing a hip operation.

Mystery surrounded his future when it was reported he’d been ordered to stay away from the club’s training centre at East Mains at the start of this season although Hibs later insisted his absence was simply to give him time to rest and recover. However, Galbraith, who scored a dramatic last-gasp winner to give Hibs victory over Celtic in Glasgow with his only goal for the club, never
featured again in boss Pat Fenlon’s plans.

Now Galbraith is set to make his debut in the
Airtricity League as Limerick mark their return to the top flight in Ireland after a 19-year absence with the Munster Derby against Cork City at their Thomond Park on Sunday, March 10.

Limerick manager Stuart Taylor said: “Danny is a fantastic signing for the football club and it shows the ambition of the club that we’ve signed a player of Danny’s pedigree.

“He’ll bring a different
dimension to our squad.”

n Hibs Under-20s face Hamilton at New Douglas Park tonight (kick-off 7pm).
