We still have it all to do, says Ledley

Joe LEDLEY is enjoying the fall-out from Celtic’s historic Champions league win over Barcelona but recognises the Hoops’ place in the knockout stages is far from assured.

The Wales midfielder helped Neil Lennon’s side stun the Catalan giants at Celtic Park with an unlikely 2-1 victory on Wednesday night, with momentous goals from Victor Wanyama and Tony Watt rendering Lionel Messi’s late counter a consolation.

The scoreline, a reversal of the Hoops’ trip to the Nou Camp last month, means that with two Group G games remaining – away to Benfica and home to Spartak Moscow – Celtic find themselves on seven points, two behind leaders Barca and looking good for a last-16 place.

However, speaking at the Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final draw in Edinburgh yesterday, where the Scottish champions were paired with St Mirren and Hearts against Inverness, Ledley said: “Obviously we don’t want to put too much pressure on ourselves and not many people would have thought we would have been in this position, but we are and we deserve to be.

“Realistically we would probably have thought we would have got no points (from Barca) but what we achieved was fantastic. We had to believe after the first game against them in Spain and we took that form into the game the other night. But there is still a long way to go.

“We still have two games to go and anything can happen but we are in a good position and hopefully we can continue that form.”

The League Cup semi-finals will not take place until the end of January but Ledley is targeting a cup final appearance.

The former Cardiff player said: “We want to win as many trophies as we can so it is very important.”
