JOHN McGLYNN believes Hearts hold the advantage for the Scottish Cup fourth round derby against Hibs because they know how to win the famous trophy and have the medals to prove it.

The Tynecastle manager said May’s 5-1 victory over Hibs at Hampden Park
remains a vivid memory for many of his players which he will draw on for next month’s tie at Easter Road.

The Scottish Football
Association yesterday paired the Edinburgh teams
together in the tie of the fourth round, due to be staged over the weekend of December 1 and 2. The match is likely to be moved from the scheduled 3pm kick-off on Saturday December 1 for live television broadcast.

McGlynn and Hearts are excited at the prospect of another Cup derby so soon after their historic triumph in last season’s all-Edinburgh final. Hibs will view it as an opportunity for revenge, however, the Hearts manager feels the psychological edge lies with his squad.

“It was a bit of surprise for

the two clubs to be drawn together given the final was only a few months ago. It’s a game we’re looking forward to,” McGlynn told the Evening News.

“We want to use any

advantage we can and the experience of winning a Scottish Cup final is certainly an advantage to us. We have other players who weren’t involved that day who want to make their name and get their own Scottish Cup winner’s medal. It’s an opportunity for them now to take that step.

“We have a number of league games before this tie and we want to focus on them, pick up points and be confident

going to Easter Road. When it comes around, I’m sure

mention of the cup final will crop up. It could be an advantage to use that as motivation given what these players achieved.

“They have the winners’

medals to prove it.”
