Royal phone hoax: Morrissey blames nurse’s suicide on royals

Morrissey has hit out at the royal family over the death of a nurse

Indie legend Morrissey was caused a fuss down under after suggesting that the Royals could be responsible for the suicide of the nurse who was the victim of a radio station’s prank call.

• Morrissey questions whether Duchess of Cambridge was even ill at all.

• He says she feels no shame over nurse’s death.

The former Smiths singer also hit out at what he called the “arrogance” of the royals as he spoke to a TV show in New Zealand.

The news comes as the results of the post mortem of nurse Jacintha Saldanha were released today after she was found dead last week. Just days earlier she had been the victim of a prank call by two Australian DJs who phoned the hospital claiming to be members of the royal family.

Speaking to 3News, Morrissey said: “It wasn’t because of two DJs in Australia that this woman took her own life, it was the pressure around her.

Arrogance

“There is no blame so far placed at Kate Middleton, who was in the hospital, as far as I could see, for absolutely no reason.

“She feels no shame about the death of this woman, she’s saying nothing about the death of this poor woman. The arrogance of the British royals is absolutely staggering.”

Morrissey then questioned whether the Duchess was even ill, saying: “Does she have a health condition? Is it anorexia or is it pregnancy?

“I mean morning sickness already? So much hoo haw and then suddenly as bright as a button as soon as this poor woman dies she’s out of hospital? It doesn’t ring true.”

Morrissey has long been an outspoken critic of the royal family, previously describing the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as “so dull as people that it is actually impossible to discuss them.”
