Lynne McCrossan: How to dress for a palace date with designer royalty

Bruce Morris, 24 Bonnyrigg

The bobble hat is king this Christmas so when I spotted this treat I had to snap it. Bruce picked it up in Topshop along with his tshirt and trousers. The jacket is next and his trainers were from Schuh.

IN 24 hours, the biggest night in world fashion kicks off right on our doorstep.

Karl Lagerfeld and his cronies will be jetting in from far-flung corners of the globe to gather at the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots.

The guest list is tighter than a fat guy in spandex for the Métier d’Art Collection.

This is Chanel’s annual Ready to Wear spectacular, showcasing
specialist crafts within team Chanel that attract the rich and famous alike.

Previous years have seen them celebrating the ateliers of costume jeweller Desrues, feather dresser Lemarié and embroiderer Maison Lesage in cities such as Moscow and Monte Carlo.

This time Chanel has taken inspiration from its long-standing love affair with knitwear to host the extravaganza in
Linlithgow Palace.

The golden tickets have long since dispersed with only a handful of my fashion friends making the cut. As grown men and women wept over an opportunity lost, I was faced with a slightly scarier scenario.

What on God’s green earth does a peasant wear to the palace? Luckily, and like Cinderella before her, I have a fairy Godmother or two in my back pocket.

As I text my dress distress to designer-savvy girlfriends, two lovely solutions
presented themselves – a loft crammed full of vintage Chanel or borrow a brand new gown from a sample rail. All I have to do is pray I’ve picked correctly.

It’s going to be an extra special Christmas for one lucky lass thanks to the girls at Jane Davidson, as they are giving away a Diane Von Furstenberg navy Harper Connect handbag from Wednesday.
