Triple bill for Snow Angels Theatre Company

EDINBURGH’S Snow Angels Theatre Company celebrate moving into their new home, The Fiddler’s Elbow, this week, with a triple bill of one-act plays entitled An Evening of Proposals.

The first, Gate D, by Gig Young, charts a chance meeting at Damascus Airport that leads to a life-or-death decision.

Next, Customer Care, by Jonathon North, introduces Jeannie, who works in a call centre. Are her gentleman callers looking for a different kind of ‘service’?

Finally in I’m Not Bitter, by Ross Macfarlane, take one dating agency, mix in two strangers and add a rainy Saturday night. The result? Comedy.

Founded by Edinburgh-based advocate and writer Ross Macfarlane, and Scottish actor Jack Reid, the company was formed with the aim of performing short new plays and musicals.

Macfarlane explains, “Jack and I were singing at a concert in a small Off-Broadway venue in New York in 2009. During our time in New York, we were struck by the number of spaces available for small theatre productions and new work. While Edinburgh is alive during the Festival period, it seemed to us that there were few opportunities for new drama to flourish throughout the rest of the year. Thus, we decided to form the Snow Angels Theatre Company to encourage new writing of short plays and musicals, and then we set out to look for a suitable small venue.”

Macfarlane adds that the company has big plans for The Fiddlers Arms, “We intend to create a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment with a dedicated rehearsal and performance space in the heart of Edinburgh. Snow Angels at the Fiddler’s Elbow will also act as a receiving house for small touring companies year round and during the Edinburgh Fringe.”

Apprearing in the triple bill are Alex Ash, Elsie Horobin, Jamie McInnes and Hayley Roberts.

An Evening of Proposals, The Fiddler’s Elbow, Picardy Place, until Sunday, 7.30pm (matinees 2pm), £7, 0131-556 9933
