Pervert hid camera in clock to spy on woman

A PERVERT hid a camera inside a clock which he used to film secret shots of a woman using a bathroom, a court has heard.

Derek Bathgate, 43, used a spying device to make recordings of the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard yesterday how Bathgate filmed his victim without her knowledge at his home between February 2011 and March 2011.

He was snared after another man – who also cannot be named for legal reasons – took a look at the clock and found a small camera lens at the timepiece’s 12 o’clock position.

Police were then called and officers raided Bathgate’s house, where they found a series of indecent images and a film of young girls performing sex acts.

Bathgate, of North Berwick, East Lothian, pleaded guilty to recording the woman doing a private act at Newhaven Place, Edinburgh, with the intention of enabling himself to look at the image of the female concerned between February 13, 2011 and March 6, 2011.

He also pleaded guilty to having indecent images of children – 108 pictures and one video – between May 2003 and March 2011.

Sheriff James Scott deferred sentence for six weeks.
