CALCUTTA Cup fever was also gripping Edinburgh on this day in 1984, in what was the 100th rugby match between Scotland and the Auld Enemy.

The pupils from Noadswood Comprehensive School, Southampton, had been following the fortunes of the Scottish team for about four years for reasons which were never entirely clear.
One girl, Alison Bishop, 16, perhaps gave a hint. She revealed her ambition was to have a candlelight dinner with Heriot’s wing-forward Bruce Walker.
