Drug trafficker gets 5 years in jail following home raid
A DRUG trafficker who was caught red-handed has been jailed for more than five years.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Richard Ferguson, 41, was too startled to move from the table where he was sitting when police burst into a house in Prestonpans, East Lothian.
In front of him were scales, cling film, a mobile phone and a wrap of heroin.
Poking out of the cushion of the seat behind him was another bag of heroin. Experts said the total of almost 90g of the drug might have fetched up to £9000 on the streets.
Ferguson, of Acheson Drive, Prestonpans, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin last November 9.
Because Ferguson has two previous convictions for trafficking hard drugs he faced a minimum sentence of seven years but judge Lord Bracadale allowed a discount because of Ferguson’s early guilty plea and cut the sentence to five years and 219 days.
