Dope desperate for cash agreed to help grow cannabis at home
A MAN agreed to cultivate cannabis for a friend in the hope of making some extra money when they produced a crop, a court has heard.
William Greer claimed his friend went back to Poland and left him to carry the can when police called with a search warrant.
They found him in charge of three hash plants worth £750, Livingston Sheriff Court was told.
Prosecutor Katie McNair said: “He told police that Marec, who was Polish, set it up. He told them: ‘I didn’t take anything to do with them. I put water in them, that’s all’.
“He said his house had been broken into in July and he needed the money. He said Marec was going to give him money.”
Greer, 22, appeared for sentence yesterday. He earlier pleaded guilty to producing cannabis at his home in Barbauchlaw Crescent, Armadale, West Lothian, on November 25 last year.
Darryl Lovie, defending, said: “He did it to make some money because he was struggling financially.”
Sheriff Graeme Fleming sentenced Greer to 80 hours of unpaid community work.
