Doctor gets a worm glow
A DOCTOR from East Lothian has deliberately infected himself with blood-sucking worms in a TV experiment and cured his yeast allergy in the process.
Dr James Logan, who grew up in North Berwick, allowed 50 hookworm larvae to burrow through his skin and, after a week, make their way into his lungs as part of Channel 4 show Embarrassing Bodies.
He then coughed them up, swallowed them and they grew into adults in his guts.
The 32-year-old wanted to test the theory that the centimetre-long worms can help banish common conditions like asthma, diabetes and food allergies.
