College in the pink for cancer charities cash
West Lothian College has raised hundreds of pounds for cancer charities by “thinking pink”.
Students led the fundraising efforts earlier this month as part of Think Pink Day, a UK-wide event designed to raise awareness of cancer and increase donations to a wide range of charities that help people affected by the disease.
Micole Robertson, learner engagement officer at West Lothian College, said: “In support for World Cancer Day on February 4, West Lothian College wanted to raise awareness and support local cancer charities by raising money, to be split between the Teenage Cancer Trust and Cancer Research.
“Some of our students and staff have either suffered cancer or have known sufferers, and they recognised the importance of education and provision of support.
“West Lothian College has a rich history of community campaigning and fundraising, so it was only natural that we would get involved.”
Hospitality students took charge of the day, donning their aprons and baking pink cupcakes, which were sold to hungry staff and students for £1 each.
Other items on sale included wristbands, badges and t-shirts. The students topped up the cash by touring the college campus buildings with collection boxes.
