Calls to back eco bank bid
NEW Energy Secretary Ed Davey is being urged to back Edinburgh’s case to host the new UK Green Investment Bank.
Edinburgh Central SNP MSP Marco Biagi called on Mr Davey – appointed yesterday to replace Chris Huhne after he resigned to answer a charge of perverting the course of justice over speeding points – to press Business Secretary Vince Cable to locate the bank here.
Mr Biagi said: “Edinburgh has a unique network of financiers, academics and government agencies all at the heart of the green energy revolution.”

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 01:15 PMWouldn't this green bank be able to get cheaper land, and require less commuting of staff, by locating in a small town?

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 06:58 PMThe Westminster government could prove how much they want Scotland to stay in the U.K. by moving as many jobs as possible north of the border. The payroll vote would then ensure a no vote.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 11:05 AM# 2, 3, 4, 5 - 'Say Yes to a Cuppa', 'Danielrober2', 'Vote 'NO' - At the moment, Scotland, unfortunately, is still part of the UK. After the vote, the only change would be this bank's letter-heads minus the 'UK' bit. Mr Biagi is quite right in trying to attract jobs to Scotland, as I'm sure his Welsh and Irish counterparts are. Or should all investment and enterprise be confined strictly to England until the referendum has been decided ?.

Vote 'NO'

Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 03:03 PMIs this an indication that Edinburgh Central SNP MSP Marco Biagi is choosing to back a federal UK instead of separation and the loss of UK government jobs? The UK bank would be superbly located at the address Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, EU.
Say Yes to a Cuppa
Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 01:53 PM...just to clarify, with all due respect to Mr Biagi, I'm sure he's an excellent councillor and truly wants the best for Scotland in championing this cause. Maybe "hypocritical" is too strong a word for what I mean, which is maybe that he is being dishonest with himself? After all, if he believes that Scotland should sever ties with the rest of the UK why does he want the UK Government to set-up a UK based bank here in Edinburgh? Or maybe his conviction to independence is only luke warm?
Say Yes to a Cuppa
Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 01:42 PMI personally think it would be a good thing if the bank was located in Edinburgh, but it might be more prudent if it was located in Cardiff or Newcastle instead, considering the potential withdrawal of Scotland from the UK. Plus I don't understand why a SNP councillor wants the UK Government to setup a new bank in Edinburgh? Isn't that a bit hypocritical of Mr Biagi? Cue SNP activists saying that I'm anti-Scottish for saying such a thing....

Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 01:02 PMScotland doesn't do banking except if you include lessons on how to bring them down. Another loony green venture in the making.
