JUST over three years ago, when John MacLeod put the Skye Cuillin on the open market, I offered to chair a committee that would look at ways of raising the necessary capital to repair Dunvegan Castle’s leaky roof. In return, I asked him to gift the Cuillin to the nation. I don’t think Mr MacLeod took me too seriously, but the fact that he has now asked Jim Hunter, of Highlands and Islands Enterprise, to perform much the same task suggests it wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
