Wood Group builds Saudi colossus
OIL services heavyweight Wood Group has completed the takeover of two engineering businesses in Saudi Arabia to create one of the biggest firms of its kind in the Middle East.
The Aberdeen group is combining Saudi firms Dar E&C and PI-Consult with its Mustang business to create Mustang Al-Hejailan Dar PI (MHDP), which will have about 500 staff.
MHDP will deliver a five-year on- and off-shore engineering services contract for Saudi Aramco, which Wood won earlier this month.
Mike Straughen, Wood Group director responsible for engineering, said: "We look forward to the exciting opportunities presented by Saudi Aramco's prestigious contract award. In the longer term, we expect growth for MHDP in Saudi Arabia, particularly in downstream and infrastructure."
