Wireless experts keeping planes safe
WORK will begin in Livingston next month on a wireless sensor system for monitoring aircraft components while in flight.
Engineers at the Institute for System Level Integration (ISLI) – which brings together Glasgow, Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Heriot-Watt universities – will work on the 3.3 million project as part of the "Witness" consortium, which includes Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, Qinetiq and Airbus.
The system is designed to monitor the health of aircraft systems and flag up faults, using wireless technology. Development is expected to take three years.
