Wetherspoon buys five bars from Punch to continue expansion
PUBS chain JD Wetherspoon has acquired five pubs in England from Punch Taverns.
The outlets are scheduled to reopen in January following a 4 million refurbishment programme.
Wetherspoon previously said it was pressing ahead with plans to open 40 pubs in the current financial year, despite a recent dip in trading.
After revealing a 406m loss in the year to September, Punch, Britain's largest pub company, said that it may have to sell as many as 2,000 of it poorest performing pubs from its 7,600-strong portfolio over the coming years.
