Engineering group Weir has appointed Charles Berry, chairman of coal-fired power station owner Drax, as a non-executive director.

The Glasgow-based firm said Berry, who is also a non-executive of the Securities Trust of Scotland, will join its audit and remuneration committees when his appointment takes effect on 1 March.

Berry has also held directorships at Scottish telecoms group Thus and ScottishPower, where he was chief executive of the utility’s UK operations.

Weir chairman Lord Smith of Kelvin said: “Charles brings great experience of the industry and we are looking forward to benefitting from his contribution in the future.”
