Laura Pearson-Smith: Shine Bright like a Diamond

I’VE felt rather like an Ancient Egyptian over the past couple of weeks as I’ve been surrounded by, and covered in, gorgeous gold and silver metallic shades. From hanging out on a luxury cruise ship with gilt-edged interiors to having some major sparkle added to my nails, everything has been shiny for me.

Stylish Happenings

P&O Cruises’ luxury new cruise liner The Britannia docked in Greenock for the day last weekend, and I was invited on-board for the full VIP treatment. This is the largest cruise liner in the UK and carries over 3500 passengers plus over 1300 crew. Like its name would suggest, this is a very traditionally decorated ship.

Art Deco-inspired gold furnishings dominate this floating paradise, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time exploring it, eating all the delicious food and spa treatment.

One of my favourite beauty brands Lush Cosmetics are celebrating their 20th birthday. I went along to an event at the Lush Sauchiehall Street store in Glasgow to learn about what’s coming up for them on the product front and also to appreciate some of their most popular cult offerings. There was birthday cake, and we even got to make our own bath bombs.

I love having beautifully painted nails, and when I was invited to try out new nail parlour NAF! Salon in Glasgow city centre, I had to head there straightaway. It is the brainchild of popular nail decal company DIY Nails’ founder Tammy Koslowski. I’m so glad she chose her home city for this salon as the gold glitter gel manicure I walked out with is just amazing. Now I have to choose what to have on them next.

What to Buy On a Shopping Spree

Who wouldn’t want to bathe in glitter? The Lush Cosmetics Sunnyside Bubble Bar (£3.75) is the perfect summer addition to your bath with its gold tones and happy orange scent. Simply crumble it under your running tap for decadent metallic bubbles. Don’t worry though- you won’t leave the tub looking like you’ve been in an accident in a craft factory, you’ll just have a beautiful and delicate lustre to your skin.

For me, there is nothing more summery than gold accessories. I love this woven Gold Straw Shopper Bag (£29.50) from Marks & Spencer as it suits both casual and dressed-up styles. It really glows, and looks very elegant and eye-catching.

I’m also a major fan of temporary metallic tattoos at the moment. Scottish brand Bare Baroque sell stunning sets for just £6 each. I wear them in the summer months as bracelets and rings when sometimes it is just too hot to wear a lot of jewellery. Bare Baroque’s temporary tattoos are so easy to apply with just water, and last for around 7 days.

I have had shades from this Model’s Own Chrome Palette on my eyes just about every day this month. They are so shiny and pigmented, and you can create some really striking looks with these shadows. It is such a bargain at just £5.99 too- what’s not to love?!
